Description
An account of the resource
A Native-American woman stands carrying a swathed papoose in a craddleboard on her back, her hands crossed before her holding a walking stick. She has black hair (perhaps made of horsehair) and wears traditional dress, including a real beaded headband, white dress with maroon trim, and moccasins with a criss-cross rope band on the tops. The baby is attached by metal hooks and is made of burlap and rope with fiberglass coating and paint (with metal underneath). The craddleboard is golden-brown with Native-American designs of black, white, and yellow on the sides. The baby's blanket is painted cream. The sculpture is mounted upon a rectangular base. -- Smithsonian National Inventory

An account of the resource
Lake Light, Bad Medicine Lake: We go to the lakes for many reasons – to connect with family, to escape the routine of our work-lives, to read, to enjoy water activities, the list goes on. Yet, often what we remember or take away from those trips to the cabin are single moments of lucidity, simple images of ordinary things that sneak up on us and quietly announce their presence. I offer you some of those images of clarity, taken with a modest point-and-shoot camera, which in a way is in keeping with the rich simplicity of the moment. -- Wayne Gudmundson
